acÆDMia is a fusion of academia and electronic dance music, creatively blending the words "academia" and "EDM." With the subtitle “Publishing X Musicology X Sound Engineering: The Future of Academic Publishing and Outreach,” this project leverages the power of music sampling to ignite curiosity and engagement with academic content and intellectual culture. Research in intellectual property law suggests that copyright laws on music sampling may be overly restrictive, as sampling can actually boost sales for the original work, benefiting both the sampled song and artist.
On the academic side, publishing faces challenges like reproducibility issues, misinformation, and questionable statistical practices. However, new approaches are emerging—like the sonification of articles. Instead of reading, audiences can listen to academic insights, making content more accessible and easier to retain. acÆDMia takes this a step further, embedding sonified academic publications within catchy EDM tracks. By using music's universal appeal, acÆDMia aims to make complex ideas engaging and accessible to wider, often unreached, audiences.
